President Trump signs TRACED Act into law to combat robocallers

Basking Ridge, N.J. – WEBWIRE

The President signed the TRACED Act into law. The new law includes measures to restore consumers’ trust in Caller ID, penalties against illegal robocallers and carriers who knowingly accept their traffic, and enhanced industry-government coordination on tracing back illegal calls. The following statement should be attributed to Ronan Dunne, Verizon Executive Vice President and CEO of Verizon Consumer Group:

“Verizon has long been a proponent of this legislation and on behalf of our customers, we’re thrilled to see another major step achieved in the fight to eliminate the scourge of unwanted and illegal robocalls.

In 2019, we helped our customers avoid nearly 3 billion spam calls thanks to enhancements in our network like STIR/SHAKEN and the introduction of our free Call Filter service. We’re continuing the fight against unwanted robocalls and this newly signed law will help us do even more to protect consumers.

We’re not in this alone and it will take the industry, along with officials at both the State and Federal level working with us to put an end to these illegal calls. I look forward to continuing this incredibly important initiative on behalf of our customers"
