The anti-bullying guide “Because It’s Wrong: Bullies vs. Nazis” (ReadersMagnet; 2019) by Lydia Greico walks readers through a historical overview of bullying and, above all, offers solutions to helping readers deal with bullies and eliminate the culture of bullying at home, in school, and at work.

The book was displayed on the exhibit at the 2019 Guadalajara International Book Fair in November 30 through December 8, 2019 at the Exhibition Center Expo Guadalajara in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico.

Otherwise known as the FIL (from its Spanish name Feria Internacional del Libro de Guadalajara), the nine-day book fair is the largest book fair in the Americas and the second largest book fair in the world. It is the most important publishing event in the Spanish-speaking world. It offers authors, publishers, booksellers, distributors, rights agents, and other book industry professionals the chance to break into the Latin American market.

In “Because It’s Wrong: Bullies vs. Nazis,” Greico, herself a former victim of bullying, traced the historical origin of bullying as far back as Jesus’ days. “Jesus was bullied,” she said. “Look at the way he was put to death. Pilate picked the worst most societal devastating way to kill Jesus: crucifixion.

“He was whipped, beaten, spit on, hair pulled from his beard from the very people of he had chosen and elevated… His own race. One week they were praising him and the next week they crucified him. How could this be? This was bullying to the nth degree.”

Greico also points out that people other than Jesus have also been bullied throughout history. She said:

Jews in the Holocaust were bullied and took the hardest known blows in history known today in religious worlds. The American Indians were bullied off their land and on to reservations, Kids in school today are bullied; celebrities’ kids; people who are different are bullied. The Japanese got bullied in 1942. We had our own holocaust.

Through her book, Greico hopes to eliminate the culture of bullying in all places. She urges her readers not to be intimidated and cowed into submission and instead to fight back with education and self-defense classes, among other solutions she offers in her concise yet impactful guide.
