Munich, Dec 15, 2006
The new Gigaset SE366 WLAN from Siemens Home and Office Communication Devices supports the leading-edge IEEE 802.11n draft standard and enables data transfer at a speed of up to 300 Mbit/s. As a result enormous volumes of data, such as those typical of many multimedia applications, can be sent problem-free over a wireless network.

Until now, the problem with powerful home networks is that they require cabling – something that is inconvenient and visually unattractive. Thanks to the IEEE 802.11n draft standard, the Siemens Gigaset SE366 WLAN offers a wireless alternative. The router enables the transmission of large volumes of data without cables at a transfer rate of up to 300 Mbit/s. Services like IPTV and HD video streaming are therefore no longer too demanding for a network to handle. The Gigaset SE366 WLAN can be used simultaneously by several people. In addition, users can use up to four 10/100 LAN ports, resulting in the fact that additional PCs can be integrated into a network via a LAN cable. The WiFi-certified router is backwards-compatible and also supports the standards IEEE 802.11g and IEEE 802.11b.

A large transmission footprint is necessary to ensure that every corner of the home can be networked. To achieve this, the Gigaset SE366 WLAN has one internal and two pivoting external antennas, enabling it to supply data to devices at a distance of up to 50 meters within a building and up to 300 meters outdoors.

Safety and security are vital for data transmission. With wireless networks in particular, users need to ensure that they can ward off undesired access. The Gigaset SE366 WLAN offers ideal protection thanks to an integrated firewall and state-of-the-art WPA2 encryption.

The Gigaset PC Card 300 with a PCMCIA interface from Siemens enables a connection between the Gigaset SE366 WLAN and a laptop or PC. It exploits the full speed of the IEEE 802.11n draft standard and transfers data at a speed of up to 300 Mbit/s. The device is also backwards compatible and supports the standards IEEE 802.11g and IEEE 802.11b.

The Gigaset USB Adapter 300 also enables the cable-free integration of PCs in a network via USB. The adapter has a USB 2.0 interface and also uses the IEEE 802.11n draft standard. The Gigaset SE365 WLAN is a 3-in-1 device that can also be used as a ‘repeater’ to increase the range for connecting set-top-boxes and games consoles – it can also be used as an access point. Market launch of both the repeater and USB Adapter is scheduled for spring 2007.

The Siemens Gigaset SE366 WLAN and the Gigaset PC Card 300 are available in December 2006.
