Hormel Foods Corporation, Albertsons and Safeway donated more than 1,000 Hormel® CURE 81® half hams and more than 12,000 jars of SKIPPY® peanut butter on Tuesday to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Phoenix, Ariz.

This massive donation came just in time for the holidays and will help feed thousands of families in need this season. The donation will support the organization’s holiday food drive at Safeway and Albertsons locations throughout the Phoenix area and its mission to serve the poor and provide others with the opportunity to serve.

“Hormel Foods is proud to partner with Albertsons to support hunger-relief efforts in the communities served by the company’s stores,” said Megan Elliott Hormel® Cure 81® brand manager at Hormel Foods. “The Hormel® Cure 81® Hams for Hunger® program, as well as our SKIPPY® peanut butter donation, highlights our long-standing relationship with Albertsons, and we are honored to work together and make such a substantial contribution for those in need.”

Hormel Foods will donate more than 55,000 hams (an estimated retail value of $1.1 million or an equivalent of more than *1 million meals) to charities nationwide through the Hormel® Cure 81® Hams for Hunger® program this holiday season.

“Safeway is proud to partner with Hormel Foods and St. Vincent de Paul for this massive food donation that will provide much needed food for the St. Vincent de Paul pantry. At Albertsons Safeway, the elimination of hunger is a top priority,” said Nancy Keane with Public Affairs at Albertsons and Safeway.

The makers of the Hormel® Cure 81® brand created the Hormel® Cure 81® Hams for Hunger® program in 1989. The program involves a partnership between Hormel Foods and grocery retailers across the country. Throughout the years, more than $15 million dollars in hams have been donated, feeding tens of thousands of families.
