Thursday, December 14, 2006 - CHELMSFORD, Mass. — Brix Networks, the leading provider of converged service assurance solutions, announced today it has been issued a patent by the United States Patent and Trademark Office for the company’s hardware time-stamping method.

U. S. Patent No. 7,058,020 covers a technique for time-stamping a data packet, which permits the measurement of network characteristics -- such as one-way and round-trip latency and jitter -- to within one microsecond, and eliminates the uncertainties typically associated with software processing and system load.

Hardware time-stamping guarantees highly accurate and scalable quality of service measurements that are required for assuring today’s real-time, revenue-generating Internet Protocol (IP) services, such as Voice over IP (VoIP) and IP television (IPTV). All members of the Brix family of hardware Verifiers can time-stamp incoming, outgoing, and monitored packets.
