Forbes Highlights Top 2019 Stadium Innovations

While 2019 introduced incredible venues such as Allianz Field and Chase Center, it also included significant innovations that will drive many of the stadium experiences fans will enjoy in 2020. Having been a part of the project team on six of the nine stadiums named by Forbes, Walter P Moore leverages computational design and parametric modeling techniques to deliver state-of-the-art design solutions.

“Architectural creativity has expanded to new building materials. The 2019 opening of Allianz Field in Minnesota included a brand-new PTFE mesh building façade, part of a striking exterior for the soccer stadium. ’This material was really a search for something that didn’t exist and through a lot of trials, tribulations and iterations, there was a team of so many types of different people working to create it,’ says Bruce Miller, Populous senior principal. ’It is really custom-tailored to that particular location in the world.’ And as we look toward the 2020 opening of SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, with its new canopy, and Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, a domed structure, the development of new materials enlivens the future of stadium design.”
