Eni is awarded a 50 MW p photovoltaic project in Kazakhstan

San Donato Milanese (Milan) – WEBWIRE

Eni, through its local subsidiary ArmWind LLP, has been awarded a 50 MWp photovoltaic project in the region of Turkestan, in southern Kazakhstan, as a result of an auction managed by the Kazakh Authorities. The auction was realized in the framework of a joint initiative of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

Last September, Eni was awarded a 48 MW wind farm project, as an extension to the Badamsha 1 project, a 48 MW wind farm itself, which is currently under construction in the region of Aktobe, in western Kazakhstan.

This award marks Eni’s entry in the solar sector of the country and it confirms the company’s role as one of the most prominent energy players in Kazakhstan. The project will be completed in the second half of 2021 and it will contribute to the progressive decarbonisation of the power sector of the country. The new plant will allow for a greenhouse gases emissions reduction of 1.2 million tons of CO2 equivalent over the lifetime of the plant.

This new project is part of Eni overall strategy for decarbonisation and its transformation path towards green energy and circular economy that the company began in 2014. Eni aims to improve energy access in the countries where it operates and is committed to maximizing its effort to reduce COemissions. In order to ensure long-term sustainability, Eni constantly promotes the development of renewable energy and engages in scientific and technological research.

Eni has been present in Kazakhstan since 1992. Eni is joint operator of the Karachaganak field and is an equity partner in various projects in the Northern Caspian Sea, including the giant Kashagan field. Eni is the joint subsoil user and joint operator of the offshore exploration blocks Isatay and Abay. Equity production is currently 180,000 barrel of oil equivalent per day.
