“Strong Boy, Weak Man” (ReadersMagnet; 2019) by Earl Robert Key tells the story of a young man’s journey and his hopes of finding his place in the world. The hero of the tale is Michael “Mike” DeAngelo Nicholas, who is determined to rise above adversity despite the many odds being stacked against him as a young black man with an impoverished rural background.

“Strong Boy, Weak Man” is a rich blend of coming-of-age drama and contemporary fiction with historical elements, an engrossing narrative amid the backdrop of the civil rights struggles of the 1960s and 1970s. The thirteen-year-old Mike is one of the many children of poor sharecroppers in rural Mississippi. He works hard to change his and his family’s socioeconomic situation.

Though he is being looked down upon and deemed hopeless by many people, he does his very best at things he sets his eyes upon, such as barbering and football. A series of events in his life pushes Mike to plot his life course and develop the tenacity and perseverance he needs to overcome several obstacles in his life.

How far can a poor black boy like Mike go? Will he make it big in a big city? Read all about it in Earl Robert Key’s “Strong Boy, Weak Man.” Order today through Amazon and the author’s website at https://www.erkeybooks.com/
