Key’s novel “Strong Boy, Weak Man” will be exhibited by ReadersMagnet at the 2020 Tucson Festival of Books.
 
The novel follows the trials and successes of Michael DeAngelo Nicholas (called Mike in the book), a son of a poor farmer in rural Mississippi. Amid his family’s poverty, Mike dreams of becoming a prizefighter but also learns the trade of a barber and shoe shiner. He struggles at school but he takes his studies seriously and excels at football.
 
Mike becomes the breadwinner of his family after discovering his father’s infidelity. At age nineteen, he moves to Memphis in search of better opportunities. He strives to turn his life around but also has to cope with the challenges of adulthood.

E. R. Key was born in January 1950 in Enid, Mississippi. He attended and graduated from Patton Lane High School 1969 in Batesville, Mississippi. He married in May 1977 and divorced in July of 1988. Earl is the father of one son and two grandchildren. Earl Key currently operates as a master barber in Memphis, Tennessee.
