“The technology could exist a generation from now and offers hope and solutions to problems that perplex us today.”

For Rick Badman, the future doesn’t look so bleak and a technology-driven goal is not a pipe dream but an amazing reality. He outlines these concepts in the form of a novel titled: “The Madhouse Projects” (ReadersMagnet; 2019).

“The Madhouse Projects” is about Dick Thurman, an automotive engineer who works on flywheel-powered electric cars. One of these cars is a model that he drives to victory at the 2037 Indy 500. The other characters in the novel work on various projects that aim to make the world better despite encountering opposition from corporations, institutions, and criminals. Dick’s wife Karen uses a virtual reality program that gets information out of a South American drug lord that nails people with drug charges and develops a micro-machine system that allows people to experience good mind trips.

“The Madhouse Projects” gives readers a glimpse at what could become possible within their lifetime if enough people are determined to make an incredible reality. In Badman’s version of the future, technology is used to do extraordinary things and change lives for the better.

“I believe the future need not be a period to dread, even though there will be some terrible things happening possibly during our lifetime,” said the author. “But I don’t believe the world will end for quite a long time.

“That’s why much of my science fiction is optimistic with even large problems not beyond solutions.”
