Thought leaders from Philips provide insights into how innovations in AI and data science can help to eliminate inequalities in access to care

Knowing what you want to achieve is paramount, but having a clear idea of how you are going to achieve it is equally important. At Politico’s upcoming Health Care Summit ‘Bridging the Inequality Gap Through Innovation’ (November 21-22, 2019, Amsterdam, The Netherlands), which will focus on the clinical, ethical, social and political challenges in bringing Universal Health Coverage to reality, a trio of thought leaders from Philips will contribute their insights not only into the ‘what’ but also into the ‘how’.

In the summit’s November 21 panel discussion on the Future of European Health, Philips Chief Medical Officer Jan Kimpen, together with the Deputy-Director General of the European Commission’s DG SANTE and a Member of the European Parliament, will debate the policies and innovations needed to bring better public health to the whole of society.

On the second day (November 22), Philips’ Head of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Hans-Aloys Wischmann will join a select group of invited guests in a breakfast roundtable to discuss the role of AI and big-data in identifying the clinical and social determinants of health, and in tackling inequality in healthcare access. During the afternoon session, Sean Carney, Chief Design Officer & Head of Healthcare Transformation Services at Philips will co-chair a session on digital transformation – how it can improve the patient and healthcare professional experience, with a focus on ease of use, digital literacy and a designed-around-you development philosophy.

By revealing patterns in huge amounts of data that are too subtle or complex for a human to detect, aggregating data across silos, and integrating information along individual health journeys, Philips believes that data science and AI have the potential to transform healthcare with novel solutions towards a more sustainable future –supporting people to live healthier lifestyles, improving patient outcomes, reducing healthcare costs and making quality healthcare available to all.
