Groundbreaking, Network-Driven Forum in Accra to Highlight Critical Issues Facing African Higher Education, Vocational Training and Inclusion in 21st Century Academia

Innovation Africa 2019 (https://innovation-africa.com/2019/) is rapidly shaping up to be a next-generation-driven gathering of the highest accord, bringing together global technology entrepreneurs, cross-industry leaders, institutional regional investors and forward-thinking government officials, a first in its class venue to be held within Accra, Ghana from December 3-5.

The purpose of this year’s forum, held under the patronage of the Hon. Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (MP), the Ghanaian Minister of Education and the Hon. Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful (MP), the Ghanaian Minister of Communications, is to proactively assess the opportunities and challenges that the global economy’s digital transformation presents to Africa at large, with a particular focus on fueling the potential of the region’s brightest and best of the next generation.
 
In step with this Agenda, the Forum will include interactive discussions and interventions from those discussions regarding the impact of ICT on teachers in the classroom, the application of contemporary digital technologies throughout the education spectrum, how best to invest in African ICT for digital skills transformation to unfold, and will host a reflection of innovative policies designed for higher education and vocational development.
 
Innovation Africa 2019 will also lend focus on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) for future skills and employability in Africa, the role of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) Education in progressing scientific research and development on the continent, as well as explore bridging the present skills divide between education and vocation.

The Ghanaian Ministry of Communications has also excitingly confirmed that the acclaimed ‘Miss Geek Ghana’ competition will hold its contest finale at Innovation Africa 2019, featuring its 10 finalists at the conference on December 5th. The winner will be crowned by senior officials from the Ministry of Communications.
 
According to the competition’s website, “…Miss Geek Ghana is a research and entrepreneurship-[centric] competition that seeks to promote and encourage young women between the ages of 13 and 25 years in ICT.” The top three finalists will “…receive a cash prize and business training, and the winner will also receive financing to support project implementation and start up.”
 
With the support of investors and ministerial leaders, buttressed by advancements in artificial intelligence (‘A.I’), broadband infrastructure, online teaching resources and other ICT technologies, fourth industrial revolution-inspired innovations to be exhibited and on display, Innovation Africa 2019 will ultimately enhance the quality and reach of education and information throughout the continent.
 
This showcase, coupled with the highly distinct content today confirmed, will bolster the mission of the Organizers and indeed all involved in ensuring that Innovation Africa in application will effectively equip Africa’s young people with the critical thinking skills, science and technology education, and familiarity with digital technologies needed to keep pace with the global economic revolution.
