Kaiser Permanente Georgia is the state’s highest rated health plan for providing care and service to its Medicare members — and the only Georgia plan with a 5-star rating.

According to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services 2020 Star Quality Ratings, Kaiser Permanente Georgia’s Medicare Advantage received 5 out of 5 stars, CMS’s highest rating — only 20 plans nationwide were given a 5-star rating. In addition, Kaiser Permanente’s Medicare health plans are the highest rated (or tied for the highest) in every region it serves. Kaiser Permanente provides care to nearly 1.7 million Medicare members in 8 states and the District of Columbia.

“We are committed to providing our Medicare members the very best in care,” said Jim Simpson, regional president of Kaiser Permanente in Georgia. “It’s a privilege to support the health of our members and the communities we serve, and we are honored by this exciting news.”

CMS annually rates health plans on a 1 to 5 scale, with 5 being the highest, to provide beneficiaries with a way to assess Medicare plans based on the level of care and service delivery. Medicare health plans that earn 5 out of 5 stars can participate in a 5-star special election period and continue to enroll new individual Medicare members from December 8 through November 30 of the following year. Beneficiaries who want to change from their current Medicare health plan to a 5-star plan may switch once per year during the 5-star special election period.

“Our 5-star rating demonstrates that our commitment to early detection of disease, coordinated care, and preventive medicine makes a positive difference in people’s lives,” said Mary L. Wilson, MD, president and executive medical director of The Southeast Permanente Medical Group, Inc., which provides care to more than 300,000 members of Kaiser Permanente Georgia. “Quality and service are our top priorities and this recognition underscores our commitment to our members.”

Plans are scored in several categories for care and service, including staying healthy, member satisfaction, managing chronic conditions, customer service, and pharmacy services.
