Braskem, the largest thermoplastic resin producer in the Americas and the world’s leading biopolymer producer, is organizing, from October 19 to 27, We Care Week , a global volunteer week in Brazil, Mexico, United States, Netherlands and Germany with various volunteer actions targeting local communities. In all, around 700 volunteers are expected to participate in the crowd efforts.

A total of 20 actions will be carried out, with 8 in Brazil, 3 in Europe, 2 in Mexico and 7 in the USA. Braskem team members and their guests will clean up 4 beaches and 5 parks, offer environmental education in 6 schools and support 3 recycling cooperatives, among other activities. In addition to the local initiatives, volunteers also are organizing drives to collect a wide range of items that will be used in the crowd efforts or donated to the communities.

We Care Week is part of Braskem’s Volunteer Program , which works to cause positive socio-environmental impact, a commitment undertaken by Braskem to improve quality of life in communities near its operating sites. Aware of the importance of these actions, the company not only allows, but also encourage, its team members to use their work hours to engage in volunteer actions. As of September 2019, the company had registered 2,089 volunteers, 22,000 hours of work and 50,000 donations in 25 cities in 4 countries.

“We believe in the power to transform of our actions and Braskem’s Global Volunteer Program was created to cause positive social and environmental impact in the communities surrounding our operations and to improve people’s quality of life. WeCareWeek, whose slogan is ”One company, one week, one cause: circular economy,“ focuses specifically on this impact by addressing the topic of the circular economy. The action goes beyond environmental impact by also training employees on the topic,” said Lúcia Rodrigues, head of Braskem’s Volunteer Program.

The Circular Economy is a production concept that involves reducing, reusing, recuperating and recycling materials to create a sustainable cycle from production to reincorporating the materials into a new production process. To promote the concept, companies must adopt criteria for selecting raw materials, greater care with production waste, special product designs and the reuse of post-consumer waste in a new production cycle. In 2018, Braskem undertook a public commitment to put the circular economy at the center of its business strategy.
