Schwartz was inspired to work on his science fiction book after reading online articles about underwater vents. He was fascinated by the creatures described in the articles and wondered what it would be like if man were to investigate them. Schwartz’s readings and research, along with his military experience, were the basis of the novel’s plot. For its scientific accuracy, he turned to his friend and collaborator Steven Evans for professional scientific advice.

Going by its name, science fiction is indeed a work of fiction. However, it is a genre that isn’t solely a form of escapism. Rather, it can be a good medium for learning about reality, according to Arizona State University’s Ed Finn. Schwartz hopes his readers will be compelled to read its pages as they imagine themselves in the story’s scenarios. To ensure scientific accuracy, Schwartz asked Steven Evans, a recognized genetic scientist, to collaborate, especially on the genetic implications.
