Atomontage Inc., creators of a new breakthrough microvoxel technology, today announced it has raised a total of $1.95 million in seed funding with participation from noteworthy firms and angel investors including Makers Fund; Karl Magnus Troedsson, former CEO of EA DICE; Tommy Palm, CEO of Resolution Games; and Hilmar Pétursson, CEO of CCP. The company will primarily use the funding for team growth and continued product development from its prototypes, which already feature groundbreaking voxel resolutions and interactive performance unlike anything seen running on common computer hardware.

“We have put over 15 years of research and development into our voxel technology, and are confident it will inevitably replace polygons as the standard method for 3D simulation and graphics. You will be able to not only render, but convincingly simulate large, detailed, and dynamic scenes comprised of very small building blocks. Massive game worlds or other environments with rich detail can easily be altered by the user, and also by simulations that approximate physical, chemical, biological, and other natural phenomena. This allows for far more realistic interactivity and powerful scalability than today’s conventional surface-only polygon techniques,” said Branislav Siles, CEO and co-founder of Atomontage. “We are grateful to have the financial support and industry expertise of our investors who share our vision that voxel-based simulations are about to shake up the way we all create and consume interactive 3D content, everywhere.”

Atomontage is building the foundations of volumetric worlds for millions of people to work, play, and learn within. The company’s voxel (or “volume pixel”) technology is set to transform how 3D applications are designed and delivered across all sectors, including enterprise, entertainment, and education. Content creators will be empowered to source, edit, and remix assets easily – while end-users will enjoy the deeply interactive experiences across a wide spectrum of today’s most common PC, mobile, AR, and VR hardware. Since its launch in 2018, the company’s tech team has grown to just over half a dozen senior software engineers with a combined 170+ years of experience across game development, visual computing, and software architecture.

”As creators continue to build ever-expansive worlds and truly massively multiplayer experiences, the issue of computational and graphical bottlenecks is a recurring theme,” said Michael Cheung, partner at Makers Fund. “Atomontage, with their impressive amount of research focused on the solution, have the ability to upend the fundamentals by replacing polygons with voxels, enabling the creation of previously impossible experiences. We’re excited to be on the journey with such visionaries in the industry.”
