For the third year in a row, Navajo Express has received the SmartWay Excellence Award for their practices in sustainable trucking.

“It’s not just enough to deliver loads on time,” states Navajo Express CEO, Don Digby Jr. “We have a responsibility to think beyond the basics to take trucks off the road and improve our operational processes to positively impact the environment and our people.”

On October 7, 2019, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) honored industry professionals with the 2019 SmartWay Excellence Award. Awardees were selected based on superior leadership in delivering supplies and products cleanly and proficiently.

Among the chosen recipients was Denver-based carrier, Navajo Express (Navajo). Navajo’s focus on heavy-haul solutions and supply chain efficiency is what earned them the award for the third year in a row.

“It’s not just enough to deliver loads on time,” states Navajo Express CEO, Don Digby Jr. “We have a responsibility to think beyond the basics to take trucks off the road and improve our operational processes to positively impact the environment and our people.”

The shipper, logistics and carrier partners were honored during the 2019 American Trucking Association’s Management Conference and Exhibition in San Diego, California.

“Sustainability has, and will continue to be, a primary focus for our fleet,” add Digby. “I could not be more proud of our team’s dedication and passion towards environmentally considerate practices. It’s tremendous to see their hard work recognized by an esteemed program such as SmartWay.”

Cheryl Bynum, National Program Director for SmartWay, states that, “Awardees represent the top one to two percent of environmentally responsible SmartWay companies. Their efforts help contribute to healthier air; save fuel and money; and protect our planet from greenhouse gases.”

EPA’s SmartWay is an innovative, voluntary, public-private market-driven partnership that helps companies advance supply chain sustainability by measuring, benchmarking, and improving freight transportation efficiency.
