Europe’s Scania Driver Competition Winner 2019 receives prize

Andreas Nordsjø from Norway has been crowned Europe’s best driver in the Scania Driver Competitions Final 2019. As winner of the grand prize, Nordsjø was given a cheque for EUR 100,000 to spend on a new Scania truck. The Norwegian champion was invited to Scania headquarters in Södertälje to witness the production of his prize; a Scania 650 V8.

At work Nordsjø mostly drives timber from the forest to the railway stations in Norway. The terrain is challenging and demands a lot from the truck, and from the driver.

“I chose a 650 V8, for the power and for the fuel consumption”

When deciding what Scania truck to order as his prize, the decision was easy for Nordsjø to make: “I chose a 650 V8, for the power and for the fuel consumption. It’s a really good combination, keeping the power up and the fuel use down. I also tried to order basically everything that I could get for the inside too: the biggest stereo and the best seats. I wanted a lot of comfort in the cab,” Nordsjø explains smiling.

Visiting Scania and Södertälje was something that has been on the Norwegian truck driver’s bucket list for many years, and Nordsjø was happy to be able to witness the birth of his truck on the line at Chassis Södertälje.

He was especially impressed at the speed at which the truck was assembled.

When the engine meets the chassis

“Its’ surprising to see how fast that the put the truck together. This is the first time that I get to see this kind of factory up close. It’s really fun to see the technology, and how everything works together on the line. My favourite part was when the engine meets the chassis. For me that’s where everything starts,” Nordsjø explains.

“Also, it was great to see what I was ordering becoming a final product. The truck is something that I will enjoy in my everyday work. Obviously, I spend a lot of time in my truck, so it is fun to see how this one that I ordered from winning the Scania Driver Competition, is put together.”

Support from his family

Once Nordsjø gets home with the new truck he is certain that his two sons will both be interested in taking the first ride with him. “My sons were very excited and proud that I won this competition, “ he says.

“Winning was great. As a person I’m not that competitive. In the finals I managed to stay calm and only focus on what I was doing, and not think about anyone else. That was great and I came out first,” Andreas Nordsjø says.
