Every year, the annual ITB Book Awards recognise the latest and most interesting publications from Germany and abroad, mainly in German, but also in German translation. In the run-up to ITB Berlin Michael Poliza’s wall calendar ’Iceland 2020’ (Delius Klasing Verlag) was picked for the travel calendar award. ”The unique natural landscape of this island in the North Atlantic with its high mountains, deep craters, waterfalls, moonscapes and rising vapours is a fascinating experience for buyers of this wall calendar. As with his mighty volume ‘Iceland’, co-published with Christian Krug by Delius Klasing, Michael Poliza, a leading international photographer, succeeds in capturing every impressive facet of the island in a large format“, was how the jury commented its choice. Together with other prizes to be handed out by the jury, the Calendar Awards will be presented on Friday, 06 March at 4 p.m. at the Palais am Funkturm, Messe Berlin at ITB Berlin, the World’s Leading Travel Trade Show.

The ITB Book Awards also honoured another magnificent calendar in the category ’Frankfurt Book Fair Guest of Honour 2020 – Canada’. The jury picked the wall calendar ’Canada 2020 – Between Rivers and Forests’ published by Ackermann Kunstverlag and explained its decision thus: ”It shows the vast expanse of the Canadian wild with its crystal-clear lakes, rivers and spectacular mountain ranges. This wall calendar presents the pristine natural landscape of the world’s second-largest country in every imaginable colour. It is a place one longs to be.“ The Calendar Awards will be presented in October 2020 at the ceremony for the ‘Frankfurt Book Fair Guest of Honour’ winners at the pavilion of the guest nation at the Frankfurt Book Fair.

The aim of the ITB Book Awards is to focus attention beyond national borders on the broad spectrum of important travel and tourism publications. ITB Berlin is collaborating with Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels. At the Frankfurt Book Fair the jury of the ITB Book Awards will also honour travel publications in the category ’Frankfurt Book Fair Guest of Honour’. The ITB Book Awards do not confer money prizes.
