Sandia National Laboratories researcher Stanley Chou was recently selected one of three Most Promising Engineers of the Year at the 2019 Asian American Engineer of the Year Conference in Dallas.

The AAEOY Award, first introduced in 2002, honors outstanding Asian American professionals in science and engineering for their technical achievements, leadership and public service. Winners have ranged from Nobel laureates to astronauts and from academia to corporate executives.

The AAEOY said they gave the award to Chou because he is a leading innovator in materials synthesis and materials chemistry.

Chou is an expert in the field of graphene-like two-dimensional materials, and in the engineering of these materials for energy, catalysis and sensors. “Stan is at the forefront in their chemistry and engineering,” AAEOY said. “His papers and presentations have been cited over a thousand times.”

Chou is a committee member of the Materials Research Society. He was chair of the 31st Rio Grande Symposium on Advanced Materials and has served on the board of many educational organizations, including the Albuquerque Association for Gifted and Talented Students, and the national mathematical education organization Campersand.

Sandia National Laboratories is a multimission laboratory operated by National Technology and Engineering Solutions of Sandia LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Honeywell International Inc., for the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration. Sandia Labs has major research and development responsibilities in nuclear deterrence, global security, defense, energy technologies and economic competitiveness, with main facilities in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Livermore, California.
