PPG completes COLORFUL COMMUNITIES project at Thoi Lai Primary School in Vietnam

PPG (NYSE:PPG) announced the completion of a COLORFUL COMMUNITIES® project in Ben Tre province, Vietnam, that helped revitalize Thoi Lai Primary School in Binh Dai. The project brought together nearly 80 PPG volunteers and the school’s 34 teachers, who spent one day beautifying the building for 630 students. 

PPG provided 26 gallons (100 liters) of wood coatings, which are produced locally in Vietnam, along with 518 gallons (1,960 liters) TAUBMANS® paint. PPG’s Global Community Engagement program also provided $27,000 (621 million dong) to support the renovation of the school’s classrooms, library and schoolyard.

The Colorful Communities program provides PPG volunteers and products along with financial contributions to bring color and vitality to communities where the company operates around the world, such as in Vietnam, where PPG has a sales office and production facilities.

Thoi Lai Primary School is located in a province that is vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, including rising sea levels, increased temperatures, changes in precipitation and severe weather. During the Colorful Communities project, the school’s students provided inspiration to a local artist who created fun and vibrant murals on interior and exterior walls to raise awareness and illustrate the importance of environmental protection. Single-use plastic water bottles were prohibited on the day of the event to further educate the students and community members on environmental stewardship.

During the comprehensive school renovation, volunteers painted the interior and exterior walls in a cheerful color palette of yellow and green. They also rebuilt and painted the school barrier and flagpole, and planted flowers and bushes throughout the schoolyard.
