I thought this was a cute book and kids should love it. Reminds me of when I was young and had adventures with my own grandparents. I also liked that it was located in Oregon. I love the forests there and fell in love with them when I went to visit my own grandmother who lived up there. Also, the artwork is very detailed. This is a real keeper. - Amazon Review

Childhood memories come alive in Dorothy Bruemmer’s book, “The Mystery at Tater Hill”. Written as an inspiration from her own children, the book chronicles adventures in the long daylight hours of summer that make up for one of life’s defining experiences.

In “Mystery at Tater Hill”, three children, Annie, Daniel and Tess are enjoying summer in their grandparents’ farm. Their carefree days are spent swimming in the big pond, fishing, running around what seems like endless greenery, and helping out with the chores.

As with most children, they describe the chores to be a “drag” – but are happy to help out with washing dishes, helping in the garden, and all the other minute tasks that each give them priceless bonding moments with grandmother and grandfather.

Tater Hill is the central focus of the book, a sort of rite of passage for the children who, developmentally, have vague concepts of fear and consequences. Led by the eldest of them, Daniel, they snuck out one night to explore the mysterious Tater Hill, and discovered more than they bargained for.

Bruemmer writes with such ease, her words flowing like the ponds and streams that the children splash in and splatter about – full of joy and mirth; or building suspense like the children’s curiosity of the restricted Tater Hill, described to be a giant potato with trees on top.

“The Mystery at Tater Hill” will be displayed in the upcoming Word on the Street, the biggest literary event in Canada this year on September 22 in Toronto. Grab a copy of her book at Amazon and your favorite online book retailers.
