PayPal Wars Author: Dot-coms must fight Iran’s web crackdown

Los Angeles, CA (December 6, 2006) -- Iran may be busy developing nuclear weapons, attempting to destablize democracy in Iraq, and calling for the elimination of Israel, but that’s not all that the Islamofascist government is scheming to do, says Eric M. “Ahmadinejad has also initiated a major crackdown to censor the country’s rapidly growing usage of the Web to communicate and exchange ideas,” asserts Jackson. In a move similar to censorship efforts practiced in China and Cuba, Iran has recently unveiled a series of sweeping measures intended to repress the use of the Internet. Major websites such as YouTube, Amazon.com, and Wikipedia have all been banned. The use of high speed Internet connections has been outlawed. And bloggers and website owners must now register with the government, knowing that they can be thrown in jail and tried on trumped-up charges at any moment.

While the American government may have its hands full trying to stop Ahmadinejad’s nuclear ambitions, Silicon Valley needs to step up the plate and help the freedom-loving citizens of Iran to resist their government’s oppressive regime. “Freedom-hating regimes like the one in Tehran fear the free flow of information, that’s why they attempt to censor the Internet,” notes Jackson. “But the technology to foil their censorship exists, and Silicon Valley ought to be promoting this technology in order to encourage the spread of freedom around the globe. Instead, companies like Google have shown themselves to be all too willing to get into bed with oppressive governments like China and censor information for the sake of a quick buck.”

Jackson has been a loud, steady voice in calling for the spread of freedom throughout cyberspace and around the world. In a newly updated paperback edition of THE PAYPAL WARS just released to stores nationwide, he chastises Google’s collaboration with the communists in Beijing and hails the pro-freedom origins behind PayPal. Now, with Iran mimicking China’s online censorship, he hopes to get the word out and help pressure the dot-com world to respond.
