Barnes & Noble to Host One-Millionth Storytime Weekend September 7 - 8

Celebrate Over 30 Years of Storytimes in Stores Nationwide With Paul McCartney’s Hey Grandude! and Dr. Seuss’ The Horse Museum

New York, NY – WEBWIRE

Barnes & Noble, Inc., the world’s largest retail bookseller, is marking its One-Millionth Storytime reading for kids and parents with a celebratory weekend of special Storytimes at stores nationwide on Saturday, September 7 and Sunday, September 8 at 11:00 AM. Kids will enjoy a new story each day, participate in special activities, and have the chance to get a free book, while supplies last. Attendees can participate on social media by sharing photos using hashtag #BNStorytime.

“It is truly rewarding to reach the milestone of one-million Storytimes, and to consider how many kids our booksellers have read some of the most popular kid’s books to over the past three decades,” said Stephanie Fryling, Vice President of Merchandising, Children’s Books. “Storytimes have been, and will continue to be, an integral part of what makes our stores a community gathering place. I love knowing that many of the kids who attended our Storytimes over the last 30 years are now returning with children of their own.”

For the featured stories during the celebratory weekend, Barnes & Noble has selected new books from authors that will resonate with the parents, grandparents and caregivers attending with their children:

  • Saturday, September 7: The Horse Museum by Dr. Seuss
A never-before-published book by one of the greatest children’s storytellers of all time. It is a unique Seuss book about creating and looking at art.
  • Sunday, September 8: Hey Grandude! by Paul McCartney

An action-packed picture book about the fun grandkids and grandparents can get into.  Sunday, September 8 is also National Grandparents Day, and Barnes & Noble invites the whole family to come out and enjoy this story celebrating relationships between generations.

In addition, Barnes & Noble Cafés will offer a free tall, hot or iced coffee plus café sampling on Saturday and $1.50 confetti cupcakes with any café purchase on Sunday.

Throughout the year, Barnes & Noble hosts more than 30,000 Storytimes, which are opportunities for children and their parents to hear new and old favorite picture books read by a bookseller, author or illustrator. These include our national Storytimes series held in stores nationwide on Saturdays at 11 a.m. Storytimes are a Barnes & Noble tradition that help promote reading and literacy and bring thousands of families together for laughs and smiles.
