NFI Receives First Battery Electric eCascadia from Daimler Trucks North America

NFI, a leading supply chain solutions provider, recently received the first of 10 Class 8 battery electric Freightliner eCascadias from Daimler Trucks North America LLC (DTNA). As a member of the Freightliner Electric Vehicle Council, NFI will be one of the first companies to deploy the eCascadia into its commercial operations.

NFI will incorporate the eCascadias into its drayage operations in Southern California, where the company’s distribution portfolio spans over 15 million square feet. NFI will test the battery electric vehicles under real-world conditions and provide feedback to help enhance the integration of commercial electric vehicles into operations. Further, NFI has installed electric charging stations within its Chino, Calif. operations. In addition to NFI’s expansive drayage presence on the West Coast, the company’s drayage footprint also spans major ports, rail terminals, and logistics hubs across the U.S.

To further its green initiatives, NFI operates Near Zero compressed natural gas trucks fueled with renewable energy and electric yard horse tractors in addition to electric trucks. NFI also uses battery powered Auxiliary Power Units (APUs) and outfits its dedicated fleet with aerodynamic components to aid in decreasing fuel usage. The company continues to be recognized within the logistics industry for its sustainability efforts within its dedicated and drayage fleet of over 4,000 tractors and 9,700 trailers, as well as its 50 million square feet of distribution space.
