Sumitomo Chemical to Strengthen Business Operations of its Health & Crop Sciences Sector in the Latin American Region

Sumitomo Chemical Company is strengthening its business operations relating to crop protection products and the feed additive methionine in the Latin American region by commencing full-scale operations of Sumitomo Chemical Chile S.A. (SC Chile), a group company of Sumitomo Chemical, in Santiago, the capital of the Republic of Chile.

The Company’s supply chain operations, such as logistics control, credit management, and working capital management, for its Health & Crop Sciences (H&CS) Sector in the Latin American region (excluding Mexico and Brazil) have been conducted by Sumitomo Chemical’s headquarters in Tokyo, Japan (SCC-HQ), and the Company’s U.S. subsidiary, Valent BioSciences LLC (VBC). In light of the increase in demand for crop protection products and the feed additive methionine in the region in recent years, the Company reorganized VBC Chile, formerly a VBC local sales subsidiary for crop protection products, into SC Chile, and consolidated supply chain operations that had been handled by VBC and SCC-HQ. By bringing those functions closer to where actual business transactions occur, Sumitomo Chemical expects efficient operations and timely decision-making will be achieved in the region, leading to further improvement in customer service and sales expansion in the region.

While those functional changes occur at SC Chile, Sumitomo Chemical Brasil continues to play a pivotal role as the regional headquarters for the Company’s H&CS Sector in such functions as sales planning, marketing and R&D for the entire Latin American region other than Mexico.

With the start of the full-scale operations at SC Chile, Sumitomo Chemical will expand business for its H&CS Sector in the Latin American region, where further market growth is expected, thereby contributing to meeting the world’s growing demand for a secure and stable supply of safer foods.
