Cities and Circular Economy for Food report launched at Good Food Summit, Suzhou, China

The Ellen MacArthur Foundation is introducing the Chinese translation of the Cities and Circular Economy for Food report at the third Good Food Summit in Suzhou, China. The Good Food Fund (China‘s leading non-profit organisation promoting sustainable and mindful food) hosts the Summit which brings together key stakeholders working to transform China’s food system into one that is healthier, more sustainable, and ethical.

Originally launched in January 2019 at the World Economic Forum in Davos, the Cities and Circular Economy for Food report found that there are no healthy food choices in an unhealthy food system and sets out a vision where food is grown regeneratively and locally where appropriate, waste is eliminated through better redistribution and by-product use, and healthier food products are designed and marketed from the offset.

Following the report’s publication, the Ellen MacArthur Foundation launched the Food initiative, which over the next three years will bring together key actors to ignite a global shift towards a regenerative food system based on the principles of a circular economy. The initiative will work closely with industry leaders and three Flagship Cities - London, New York, and São Paulo - and will engage with 20+ cities. Municipalities, local and global food businesses, and resource managers will all work together in new ways to drive real systemic change.

The translation of the Cities and Circular Economy for Food report will be fundamental in engaging and inspiring key stakeholders in the food industry across China. The Food initiative will activate unprecedented collaboration to mobilise the three main ambitions set out in the report and this greater global platform will inspire other cities around the world to make the shift towards a regenerative, secure, and healthy food system.
