Salem, NH – WEBWIRE

Over the years, the United States and much of the modern world has enhanced the importance of safety in the work environment. However, preventable occupational illnesses, injuries and deaths still occur far too often.

In December of last year, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported that there were a total of 5,147 fatal work injuries recorded in the United States in 2017, down slightly from the 5,190 fatal injuries reported in 2016. The fatal injury rate decreased to 3.5 per 100,000 full-time equivalent (FTE) workers from 3.6 in 2016. The bureau also reported that there were approximately 2.8 million private employer-reported nonfatal workplace injuries and illnesses in 2017. This equates to 2.8 cases per 100 FTE workers, which was almost 45,800 fewer total cases than were recorded in 2016.

A major reason for the decrease in workplace deaths, injuries and illnesses is due to the efforts of industrial hygiene (IH) professionals. The American Industrial Hygiene Association describes industrial hygiene as a science and art devoted to the anticipation, recognition, evaluation, prevention and control of those environmental factors or stresses arising in or from the workplace which may cause sickness, impaired health and well-being, or significant discomfort among workers or among citizens of the community.

Advanced MicroAnalytical’s diverse group of experts can assist IH professionals in all phases of an investigation or routine monitoring. Their team is available to help construct an analysis path that allows IH professionals to have peace of mind that they are gaining the insight they need. Where specific targets are unknown, Advanced MicroAnalytical can cast a wide net with its customized microanalysis services, using comprehensive techniques to help determine the best means to assist in unique applications. A few of Advanced MicroAnalytical’s IH services include analyzing construction debris, crystalline silica, nanoparticles, unknown dust ID and sourcing, unknown material identification, combustion byproducts, VOCs and total microscopic particulate analysis.
