Statewide Coalition of Nonprofit Hospices Enhances Delivery of Patient Care and End-of-Life Services

Respected Healthcare Leaders Form California Hospice Network

San Diego, CA USA – WEBWIRE

The Elizabeth Hospice in San Diego, Mission Hospice & Home Care in San Mateo and Hospice of Santa Cruz County announced the formation of California Hospice Network – a strategic partnership committed to sustaining local, nonprofit, community-based hospice care throughout California. These organizations, respected healthcare leaders in their communities, are working, sharing and planning together to further enhance their local delivery of exemplary patient care and end-of-life services.

The vision of California Hospice Network is that every person in California has access to mission-driven, advanced illness and end-of-life care services that meet their needs as defined by them and their communities.

Each member of California Hospice Network will continue to operate as a distinct and independent nonprofit hospice and palliative care organization while working with the other member partners to share best practices in patient care, maximize operational economies and efficiencies, and support local innovation.

“While many for-profit hospices provide quality care, it is the nonprofit community hospice that has continued to offer services that meet the unique needs of the communities, including grief support, education, complementary therapies and transitional care,” said Jan Jones, RN, BSN, Chief Executive Officer of The Elizabeth Hospice who will also serve as Chief Executive Officer of California Hospice Network. “Nonprofit hospices are facing increasing costs and decreasing revenues amidst a rapidly changing healthcare landscape. The California Hospice Network lets us focus on the unique needs of our communities while leveraging the strength of a statewide network to better prepare for the long term.”

Local leadership and Board of Directors of the hospice member organizations will remain unchanged. “The Board of Directors of California Hospice Network, a new nonprofit organization, will be comprised of two board members from each of the founding member hospices,” said Ann Fyfe, California Hospice Network Board Chair. “Each member’s existing Board of Directors will continue to provide local governance.”

The goal of California Hospice Network is to provide strategic and operational support to local, community-based nonprofit hospice providers and to develop an affiliate geographic footprint that serves a significant percentage of the California population. The Board will be recruiting additional nonprofit hospice partners to strengthen the network’s reach and scale.

Jan Jones, CEO of California Hospice Network, is a recognized leader in the hospice and palliative care movement, with more than three decades of experience in the healthcare industry and a strong background in managing community-based hospice programs and services. She currently serves as CEO of The Elizabeth Hospice in San Diego, Immediate Past Chair of National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO), and is on the Board of Directors for California Hospice & Palliative Care Association (CHAPCA) and North San Diego Chamber of Commerce.
