SABIC Continues Global LNP Anniversary Technical Summit Series in Singapore

SABIC is continuing to hold a series of technical summits in Asia to mark 70 years of its LNP™ product line of engineering thermoplastic compounds and copolymers. After a series of events organized globally over the past few months, including across China and Malaysia, the next summit takes place in Singapore on June 18 and 19. Around 250 delegates, including engineers and designers at ODMs and OEMs, molders and toolmakers from across Southeast Asia, India and Japan, converged on the Park Royal Hotel for a series of presentations, displays, and one-on-one meetings with SABIC experts .

“We are dedicated to working with customers to tackle the technical challenges they face across many markets,” says Joshua Chiaw, Global Business Director, LNP, SABIC. “The LNP product line opened up in 1948, but we continue to innovate to help our downstream partners adapt to new trends.” SABIC has polymer and compound production as well as commercial operations across Asia, including Singapore, to serve customers in Asia.

The Singapore summit was the first chance for many delegates to find out more about the latest innovation in the LNP product line, LNP™ ELCRIN™ iQ products, developed to help reduce plastic waste and support the circular economy. Unveiled in May, the first series of LNP™ ELCRIN™ iQ products is a portfolio of polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) compounded resins derived from chemically recycled post-consumer polyethylene terephthalate (rPET), mostly single-use bottles.

“This is more upcycling than recycling, because we are creating materials that have higher value than the original,” Chiaw says. “These new iQ compounds have enhanced properties that may be used in more durable, long-life applications. They also offer a smaller cradle-to-gate environmental footprint in comparison to standard PBT resin.”

SABIC is offering LNP™ ELCRIN™ iQ in various versions, including glass- and mineral-reinforced grades and non-halogenated FR and UV-resistant formulations. Some of the LNP™ ELCRIN™ iQ grades even have the potential to comply with certain U.S. Food & Drug Association (FDA) food contact regulations.

SABIC’s LNP technical summits are now taking place all around the world. A series of European events kicked off in the Netherlands in May, and later this year summits will be held in the USA too. SABIC will also be heading back to Asia, for events in Japan (in July), India (August), and Korea (October).

“Everywhere we go with these summits, we are finding that top decision makers are keen to get the latest news of what we are developing and how we can collaborate with them in their projects,” says Martin Tam, Director, Customer Fulfillment, APC, Specialties, SABIC. “We have already met with hundreds of people from processors, end-users and design houses. I think they really appreciate how we can help them take on the new challenges of Industry 4.0, 5G communications, the internet of things, environmental issues, and beyond.”
