Kaiser Permanente celebrated the groundbreaking of the West Oahu Medical Office at Kapolei, a planned $60 million, 40,000-square-foot facility at the corner of Kamokila Boulevard and Kapolei Parkway in Kapolei. Scheduled for completion in early 2021, the new Kaiser Permanente facility will be more than 3 times larger than the current Kapolei Clinic and will make health services more accessible to members in the growing West Oahu community.

The West Oahu Medical Office at Kapolei will be equipped with the most innovative and advanced health care technology designed to enhance the patient’s care experience. It will offer primary care, mental health services, imaging, lab, pharmacy, women’s health, and prevention and wellness programs, with extended hours for greater convenience. With more than 40 exam rooms, 28 provider offices and 3 imaging rooms, the facility will improve access to health care for the approximately 70,000 Kaiser Permanente members in West Oahu.

“The Kaiser Permanente West Oahu Medical Office at Kapolei will be a hub for healthy living, incorporating the latest technology, quality health care and programs that help support our members’ healthy lifestyles,” said Dave Underriner, president of Kaiser Permanente of Hawaii. “Expanding our presence in Kapolei is integral to meeting the needs of our growing West Oahu community and makes it more convenient for members to receive the care they need.”

“We want this medical office to be much more than just a clinic offering medical care, we’re hoping it can become a place where we bring together a community-wide team to promote health and wellness for West Oahu,” said Geoff Sewell, MD, president and executive medical director of Hawaii Permanente Medical Group. “We want to enhance our partnerships with the community to foster more health care solutions that are culturally relevant and address the social determinants of health.”

In addition to medical services, the 5.4-acre lot will include a Thrive community walking path and garden design developed by PBR Hawaii, which incorporates Hawaiian healing plants into its landscape. The facility’s architect and interior designer, AECOM, will integrate the history of the area and inspiration from Hawaiian culture into its design, and the medical office will also feature artwork by local artists.
