Writer Craig Leibfreid Re-released His Memoir

His new edition contains a unique philosophy and perspective on life.

Writer Craig Leibfreid recounts the obstacles of his youthful years in his new edition of “River Class: A True Story of the Reckless American Youth.” His roller-coaster in life began just a few days before graduating high school, and most of his activities involved whitewater kayaking, drinking, music festivals, psychedelic drugs, all-night parties, girls and road trips. His journey in his adolescence revealed the highest of highs, and the lowest of lows.

Despite the lightheartedness of his all-night parties and booze sessions, he encountered a few near-death experiences. On a frigid February dawn after passing out with his buddies in a log cabin in western Pennsylvania, Craig awoke to the putrid smell of kerosene and a smoke-filled room. Though fire was unseen, he and his friends could have been poisoned by carbon monoxide. Miraculously, they weren’t. So, he saved their lives by opening the cabin door and the chilly breeze replaced the smoky air. That stirred his pals and they rushed outside to safety. A close call, indeed, but by far not the worst of his perils.

Although Craig was a debonair young adult, he learned his lesson the hard way and gained a fair share of maturity as time passed. His memoir offered deeper insights that life shouldn’t be taken too seriously and that everyone is responsible for handling their emotions.

About the Author

Craig James Leibfreid has had an interest for artistic expression throughout his life. He began writing prose in college in 2009. At that time, he was already an avid whitewater kayaker. While writing, geology and kayaking shaped him as a person for the rest of his life. He has always had a deep love and respect for the outdoors, playing in the forest as a boy with his neighbors and brother. Writing and the life he leads is an extension of that.

Craig also prefers typewriting nonfiction and has an interest and talent in philosophy and logic. Independent writing began as a therapeutic process.
