Fritha Bevin-McCrimmon Crowned ICE North East’s ‘Volunteer of the Year’

STEM Ambassador Fritha has been recognised for her outstanding support for ICE education

London, United Kingdom – WEBWIRE

Stantec are delighted to announce that Fritha Bevin-McCrimmon has been named the Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE) North East’s Volunteer of the Year.

She has been recognised by the awards for her outstanding support for ICE education and playing an essential role in inspiring the next generation to consider careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

Project Engineer Fritha grew up in Dunedin, New Zealand and moved to Christchurch to study engineering at the University of Canterbury. Now based in Newcastle, United Kingdom, Fritha’s passion for engineering and commitment to raising the profile of STEM-related subjects is evident through the many engagement activities she carries out in her local community.

With a passion and ambition to break down the stereotypes and perceptions of engineering, Fritha sits on the ICE Education Panel and can often be found organising and facilitating STEM related events across the North East region including ‘Women in Engineering day’ for Year 7 girls at Newminster Middle School in Morpeth, UK.

Fritha was presented with her award by ICE President Andrew Wyllie during the ICE North East’s Annual Dinner at the Grand Hotel Gosforth Park in Newcastle.

Speaking about her award, Fritha said “It was an absolute honour to receive the ‘Volunteer of the Year’ award from the ICE. I have thoroughly enjoyed volunteering at school engagement events and on various ICE committees and it was lovely to have this recognised. Being involved with the ICE as G&S Chair, the Education Panel and Regional and Exec Committees has been fantastic experience and a great way to meet people. I encourage others to get involved!”
