Following the announcement of Kinga Siennicka’s appointment as Managing Director of Warner Music Poland, Piotr Kabaj is leaving Warner Music Group (WMG) after a career in the music industry spanning nearly 30 years.

Kabaj co-founded Pomaton in 1990, originally to publish songbooks, before then branching into local recorded music.  The company went on to become in 1993 a licensee for EMI, before being majority owned by the global music company.  In 2013, it was sold to WMG as part of the Parlophone Label Group divestment process following the break-up of EMI.  Kabaj then became President of Warner Music Poland and Eastern Europe.

In 1991, Kabaj co-founded ZPAV, the Polish IFPI National Group, on which he sat as a Management Board member from its beginning and actively created a new Polish music business in the post-Communist era.

Throughout his time at Pomaton and Warner, Kabaj has invested in local artists – initially including Jacek Kaczmarski, Maanam, Bajm, Dzem, T.Love and Republika, through to more recent breakout acts such as Natalia Przybysz, Maria Peszek, Mela Koteluk, Agnieszka Chylinska and Sylwia Grzeszczak.  Kabaj also led the successful acquisition of Polskie Nagrania, with its strong catalogue of Polish pop, rock, classical and jazz music, by WMG in 2015.

Alfonso Perez-Soto, WMG’s EVP for Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa, says: “Piotr has led the building of a great business over nearly 30 years and our thanks and respect go with him as he moves on to new opportunities.  He’s helped build the careers of so many people, including Kinga, and leaves behind a very strong team.  For that we, and they, are truly grateful.”

Piotr Kabaj says: “After almost 30 years of leading the music market changes, it’s my time for new challenges, including my doctorate about the music industry in the digital era. Thank you WMG for the last six years.  Special thanks to all Polish artists with whom I had the privilege to work; thanks to your great music, the company was one of the best in Poland.”
