House Appropriations Committee Votes to Block Trump Administration’s Dangerous Health Care Refusal Rule

Washington, D.C. – WEBWIRE

Today, House Appropriations Committee voted to deny funding to implement the Trump-Pence Administration’s dangerous refusal of care rule released last Thursday. The rule would allow virtually any health care entity, provider, or worker to use their personal beliefs to deny a patient care. Congresswoman Lee introduced an amendment to the House Labor-Health and Human Services and Education Appropriations bill to stop this harmful rule from moving forward.

The following is a statement by Fatima Goss Graves, President and CEO of the National Women’s Law Center (NWLC):

“It’s urgent to fight against the final rule released by the Trump-Pence Administration last week, and we commend the House Committee on Appropriations’ vote today to block funding for its implementation. The dangerous rule allows hospitals, pharmacies, insurance companies, doctors, nurses, and more to deny patients basic medical care, including reproductive health care, based on their personal beliefs. It’s an attack on patient access to care and threatens the health, dignity, and lives of women and LGBTQ patients. We’re grateful for the leadership of Congresswomen Lee, DeLauro, and Lowey and to all of those in Congress fighting back and taking vital steps to put patients first.”
