This season, Christie’s unveils a new evening sale entitled “ICONOCLAST”, which will directly precede the 20thCentury and Contemporary Art evening sale. This visionary auction features a generation of artists born between 1969-1989 who are defying traditional boundaries and cultural conventions to create art for a global audience.

The title of this sale – ICONOCLAST – was chosen to highlight the tradition-defying tendencies that unite this diverse generation of artists. Iconoclasts challenge and critique widespread beliefs or institutions, and these artists have shattered familiar categorisations about stylistic ideologies.

Evelyn Lin, Deputy Chairman, Head of Department commented “The curated selection of artists force us to reimagine what is possible, and to think outside of conventional labels. They were selected for the ways in which they break new artistic ground in their work, and push against the boundaries of the expected. By reflecting on a multitude of complex issues facing modern-day society, their works are both rebellious and singular in nature, and their influence in shaping the art world will continue in the years to come”.
