Trimble Acquires Spacient Technologies for Enterprise Mobile Workforce Management

WEBWIRE

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Nov. 22, 2006 Trimble (NASDAQ: TRMB) today announced that it has acquired privately-held Spacient Technologies, Inc. of Long Beach, Calif., in an all-cash transaction. Spacient is a leading provider of enterprise field service management and mobile mapping solutions for municipalities and utilities. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Spacient’s Fieldport® is a leading Geographic Information System (GIS) centric, Internet-based, wireless software suite focused on utilities field service management. The Fieldport solution, with Spacient’s proprietary mobile technology, delivers a device- and platform-independent software service that integrates GIS mapping and Global Positioning System (GPS) location with customer and asset information in a simple and user-friendly format for the mobile workforce. The modular software can be used to extend and integrate information from enterprise asset management, call center management and GIS mapping systems to the mobile workforce or be implemented as a stand-alone solution for managing, measuring and optimizing field service operations.

An on-demand solution, Fieldport is either offered as a hosted subscription service or installed on-site at customer locations. Fieldport is currently used by some of the largest municipalities and utilities in the U.S. and can operate on a wide variety of mobile devices, including the Windows Mobile, Palm, and PocketPC based mobile devices, rugged and non-rugged notebook and tablet computers, Blackberry devices, pagers and digital phones. Spacient solutions enable organizations to achieve significant cost savings for field service operations and maintenance (O&M) budgets with a very short customer return-on-investment for both Spacient’s software and services.

“The acquisition of Spacient Technologies enhances our GIS and Mapping business by further expanding our solutions for the field and mobile workforce—a strategic area of focus for Trimble,” said Doug Merrill, general manager of Trimble’s Mapping and GIS Division. “Spacient Technologies provides us with an enterprise software platform to increase field productivity and customer satisfaction for our utility customers.”

“We are pleased to join Trimble,” said Christopher Stern, founder and CEO of Spacient Technologies. “By combining our field service management software and industry expertise with Trimbles advanced GPS and mobile GIS technology, we can offer utilities a compelling solution for field asset management and customer service.”

Spacient Technologies will be reported within Trimble’s Field Solutions business segment.
