Janice Marckmann shows what her inspirational romance novel “Sovereign” is all about

“Sovereign: A Journey to Peace” (WestBow Press; 2018) by Janice Marckmann is a work of faith and done out of a love for reading and writing. The novel revolves around the theme of journey, which sums up not only the main character Melissa Blakesly’s journeying with Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, but also the author’s experience in writing the said book.
 
“Sovereign” tells the story of Melissa who works for a marketing company in Chicago. Although she loves her work, she feels something is missing. When her grandmother passed away, she inherits her home and farm, plus financial assets, in Sovereign, Iowa. A new journey awaits Melissa in the quiet town, where she will learn about the plans God has for her, develop friendships, and experience the joys of love.
 
“Writing this book was indeed a journey for me,” the author said in her guest blog for ReadersMagnet Authors’ Lounge. “I started it twenty-five years ago.”
 
Reading lots of romance novels and other fiction provided Marckmann the impetus to write “Sovereign.” “I felt like I could probably write a book similar to the ones that I was paying money for every week. After work, I would write every evening and proofread it the next day and have a friend read it and make suggestions.”
 
The author too faced her fair share of rejection from publishers; the experience made her decide to try self-publishing. At that time, her manuscript was saved on floppy disks, which she lost when she moved houses a couple of times. But since she had a paper copy, she was able to convert her paper manuscript into a digital format.
 
Marckmann’s hope is that anyone who reads “Sovereign” will seek a relationship with Jesus.

About the Author
 
Janice Marckmann is a retired Special Education teacher. She worked with high school students who faced learning challenges as well as emotional issues. She taught them to express themselves through writing. In her first novel, she hopes to present Christ as an empathetic and loving savior who desires to answer our prayers and bring us closer to him. She currently lives in Independence, Iowa.
