DETROIT, MICHIGAN -- Lifestyle Lift, a national organization specializing in the highly publicized 60-minute procedure to help rejuvenate the face and neck from the signs of aging, is commending two of its surgeons for their humanitarian efforts. Drs. Adam D. Schaffner and Philip A. Young, both fellowship-trained facial plastic and reconstructive surgeons, traveled to Vietnam in October 2006 to help the less fortunate.

Dr. Adam D. Schaffner joined three other surgeons on a four day mission to Hanoi, Vietnam. Dr. Philip A. Young joined six other surgeons on a four day mission to Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon), Vietnam and a two day mission to Hue, Vietnam.

In Hanoi, twenty patients had surgical procedures performed during the mission.
In Ho Chi Minh City, thirty patients had surgical procedures performed during the mission.
In Hue, only presentations were given (no procedures were performed).

Procedures performed included repairing defects of the lips, palate, ears, nose, eyelids, and eyebrows as well as excising keloids. These procedures helped repair congenital deformities, burns, scars, and other defects suffered by these individuals. Vietnamese surgeons watched the surgical procedures via closed circuit television or by being present in the operating rooms.

In addition to the surgical procedures, presentations were given by American surgeons on various topics relating to facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. These presentations were designed to broaden the knowledge base of the Vietnamese surgeons in order to help future patients.

The American surgeons who donated their skill and time in Hanoi were:
Oneida A. Arosarena, M.D., Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Charles M. Boyd, M.D., Ann Arbor, Michigan
Minas S. Constantinides, M.D., New York, New York
Adam D. Schaffner, M.D., New York, New York

The American surgeons who donated their skill and time in Ho Chi Minh City and Hue were:
Stephen B. Anderson, M.D., Bellevue, Washington
John M. “Mac” Hodges, M.D., Memphis, Tennessee
Frank M. Kamer, M.D., Beverly Hills, California
Davis B. Nguyen, M.D., Beverly Hills, California
William E. Silver, M.D., Atlanta, Georgia
William H. Truswell, M.D., Northhampton, Massachusetts
Philip A. Young, M.D., Seattle, Washington

Dr. David M. Kent, founder of Lifestyle Lift, states, “It warms my heart to see two of our surgeons take part in such a noble cause. We should praise these physicians as heroes for taking the time to help these individuals and give them a better life by improving their appearance. We, as a company, strongly believe in worthwhile programs such as these.”

These missions were sponsored by FACE to FACE International, a program of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS). For additional information on FACE to FACE International or AAFPRS, please see the following website links:
