Each year at the Heavy Duty Trucking Exchange, HDT (Heavy Duty Trucking Magazine) celebrates innovators in the transportation industry who exhibit quality leadership and forward thinking as it pertains to fleet operations and employee management. Navajo Express’ president, Don Digby Jr., will be recognized as a 2019 HDT Truck Fleet Innovator for his execution and out-of-the-box thinking towards heavy-haul solutions.

“I always believe there is a way to do things better,” states Digby. “The only way we can improve is to take on the challenging work, push outside of our comfort zone and truly listen to our client’s needs.”

Over the past few years, Navajo Express has proven itself a visionary in the industry with the creation of a 57’ lightweight tractor-trailer combination and a “Digby Double” combination (48’- 42’ trailers). Their world-class equipment has helped to decrease client’s transportation spend as they have the ability to haul the same amount of tonnage with less trucks, all while reducing CO2 emissions.

“When we seek potential clients we know we must go beyond lower rates and service. We have to offer solutions that change their way of thinking and enhance how they operate,” adds Digby. “But the most important thing, is to do it with our professional driver’s in mind.”

Digby uses this specialized equipment in dedicated or regional fleet settings where he knows that his drivers will be home every night, if not every other night. “In order to bring our client’s a lightweight solution, we had to modify the specs of our normal over the road truck. It was important that our drivers’ comfort was not compromised, hence the reason we only use this solution within a dedicated or regional model.”

Along with specialized equipment, Navajo Express’ services include dedicated fleets; dry, reefer and regional operations; intermodal; and truckload services. Headquartered in Denver, CO, Navajo Express has a fleet of approximately 1,000 trucks and 2,500 trailers operating in facilities located in Colorado, Arizona, Utah, Georgia, Wisconsin and Arkansas.

Digby, along with six other fleet executives, will be recognized at the Heavy Duty Trucking Exchange, May 8-10 at The Scottsdale resort at McCormick Ranch in Scottsdale, Arizona.

“It’s always an honor to have your hard-work recognized, but this award truly goes to our superior staff and professional drivers,” Digby continues. “Without our Navajo family, these ideas are just ideas. It’s our team that brings them to full fruition.”
