Fast Company Recognizes HoneyBook for Protecting Solopreneurs from Sexual Harassment in World Changing Ideas Awards

The company’s Sexual Harassment Clause allows any soloprenuer or creative freelancer access to legal workplace regulation

SAN FRANCISCO – WEBWIRE

HoneyBook, the leading financial and business management platform for creative solopreneurs and freelancers, has earned an honorable mention in Fast Company’s 2019 World Changing Ideas Award in the General Excellence category. The award highlights Honeybook’s Sexual Harassment Clause, which launched in 2018 to promote safe work environments for self-employed entrepreneurs and freelancers by protecting them from sexual harassment.

Fast Company’s World Changing Ideas Awards is an annual award program focused on elevating companies with brave social good concepts. The publication aims to draw attention to ideas with great potential and inspire people to start working on solving the problems that affect us all. This year, the prestigious award drew the largest number of entries received to date, an all-the-more impressive feat for HoneyBook to be honored for its advocacy work.

“Our goal has always been to create solutions that support solopreneur and freelancers, who are traditionally underserved,” said Oz Alon, CEO of HoneyBook. “We saw many reports on sexual harassment in traditional industries but realized that many of our members, who lack traditional HR departments, don’t have someone advocating on their behalf. We were shocked to find that the majority of freelancers we surveyed experienced sexual harassment, and we were determined to build a tool that would lead to change. We are proud that this initiative is being honored as a World Changing Idea.”

HoneyBook drew from a survey of more than 1,000 creative entrepreneurs and uncovered that women who earn a living on a project-by-project basis often endure continued sexual harassment in workplaces without regulated environments. The survey uncovered 58% of respondents did not have a sexual harassment clause in their contract. As such, HoneyBook proactively provided a solution by launching a sexual harassment clause in contracts as part of its product offering. What’s more, in an effort to bring change to the entire industry, the contracts are not exclusively available to HoneyBook’s customers, but instead are available to anyone, free of charge.

Now in its third year, the World Changing Ideas Award showcases 17 winners, more than 200 finalists, and more than 300 honorable mentions; with Health and Wellness, Education, and AI and Data among the most popular categories. A panel of eminent judges selected winners and finalists from a pool of more than 2,000 entries, such as Food, Energy, and Developing World Technology.
