ABIH® 2019 Nomination Deadline Approaches for Board of Director Positions

The American Board of Industrial Hygiene® (ABIH®) administers the internationally recognized Certified Industrial Hygienist® (CIH®) and Qualified Environmental Professional (QEP®) programs.

Lansing, MI – WEBWIRE

We encourage all Diplomates to inquire about these positions and submit their self-nominations.

The due date for self-nominations for Board of Director positions at the American Board of Industrial Hygiene® is approaching. All interested and qualified candidates have until June 15th to submit completed, official nomination packets to the ABIH® Board Selection Committee.

Once all the nomination packets have been received they will be carefully reviewed for consideration and the successful candidates will be elected in the fall to fill open positions. The Board of Directors is currently comprised of twelve Diplomates (ABIH® credential holders, including CIH®s and QEP®s) who hold four-year terms and one public member with a two-year term.

The Board meets face-to-face, for two days, three times per year. These meetings are expected to take place in late February or early March, immediately before AIHce and at the AIHA Fall Meeting. Expenses related to Board travel are covered by ABIH®. The Board also holds nine monthly conference calls to conduct business and monitor progress.

The ABIH® Board of Directors uses the Carver Policy Governance model, which emphasizes policy-making and strategic leadership in four main areas:

  • Ends: what results are to be achieved, for whom and at what cost
  • Executive Limitations: staff boundaries for operational/administrative activities
  • Board-Staff Linkage: delegation of authority to staff and staff accountability
  • Governance Process: how the Board governs itself and is held accountable

“The objective of the Board composition is to have a broad representation from the professional community and public input,” said Dirk Yamamoto, PhD, CIH® and Chair of ABIH®. “We encourage all Diplomates to inquire about these positions and submit their self-nominations. Directors play a vital role in maintaining ABIH’s future as the premier credentialing organization for the Industrial Hygiene profession across the globe.”
