IDFA awards talents at East Doc Platform, FICG, and DocedgeKolkata

At the East Doc Platform in Prague, Head of IDFA Industry Adriek van Nieuwenhuijzen awarded the Serbian/Croatian film Museum of the Revolution, directed by Srđan Keča and produced by Vanja Jambrović. Taking us behind the scenes of an unfinished, Yugoslavian-era museum and the unconventional friendships of the women inside, Museum of the Revolution also received the East Doc Platform Award, the event’s main juried prize.

Meanwhile, IDFA Senior Programmer Raul Nino Zambrano worked the floor at the Guadalajara International Film Festival’s DocuLab, awarding together with IMCINE the Mexican film Ventura by director Gisela Delgadillo. The filmmaker’s first feature-length documentary, Ventura documents the story of transgender sex worker Kenya, who fights for justice in the face of transphobic violence, ultimately confronting her own fear and vulnerability in the process.

Over in Calcutta, Managing Director of the IDFA Bertha Fund Isabel Arrate Fernandez attended DocedgeKolkata, where she awarded the Indian film I, Poppy by director Vivek Chaudhary. Set in the filmmaker’s homeland of rural Rajasthan, I, Poppy explores the little-known world of legal opium trade and its effects on one awe-inspiring family.
