Muehlbauer systems personalize passports in Slovenia - Issuing of biometric passports started in August

Roding, November 16, 2006 - The Muehlbauer technology group, quoted on the Prime Standard and worldwide active and independent advisor and manufacturer of innovative security solutions for the TECURITY market, is strongly involved in the Slovenian ePassport project. As a partner of Cetis, Slovenia’s leading producer of security printing solutions, Muehlbauer provided equipment for personalizing the Slovenian passports.
The new electronic passports have been personalized by the Muehlbauer IDENTIFIER 54 and issued by the Slovenian Ministry of the Interior since August 28. They are in line with the current European and international standards for passports and travel documents: For this reason the passport is machine readable and contains a chip to store personal and other biometric data. According to the Slovenian Ministry of the Interior, approx. 30,000 of the new ePassports are to be delivered this year and 70,000 next year. At present about one million passports are circulating in Slovenia and will be replaced by the electronic passport in coming years.
