Recognizing God’s Presence and Activity Even When He Works Incognito

Amarilo Texas – WEBWIRE

Fred Beck takes us on a journey to subtly answer the question whether God is interested in what is happening here on earth. He does that through real-life illustrations in his book: “When God Works Incognito: Thoughts & Memories of My Life & Lifetime.”

Fred illustrates through his stories the joys and challenges over more than thirty years of a missionary’s life and work in South and Southeast Asia. He reflects that on the surface, his book tells his own story, however, beneath the surface, one discovers great flowing currents of God at work. This book allows readers to gain a glimpse of missionary strategies, of how missionaries; live, work, struggle and grow in Christlikeness. It also includes stories of missionaries partnering with local believers to reach their people.

Fred shares reflections on the question whether God acts in the affairs of mankind. Through the Scriptures, he connects answers with that question. A “natural person” (a non-believer), will not accept things bestowed by the Spirit of God; for they are foolishness to him and he cannot understand them. Thus a “natural person’s” understanding is limited to the ‘physical domain’ – empirical matters that he can see, touch and verify.

However, the “spiritual person” (one who believes in and walks daily with God) can understand, both the ‘physical domain’ and the ‘spiritual domain.’ Thus, a “spiritual person” is equipped for interaction with God and recognizes God’s presence and activity, even if God works incognito.
