Children’s book by retired nurse Molly O’Rourke aims to help end bullying

This is the author’s second book installment in a series of children’s books that explores difficult subjects.

Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA – WEBWIRE

"This children’s book is a creative approach to understanding the most sensitive issues of our times."

It is more important than ever to teach children the negative effects of bullying early on. “The Adventures of Gleeson and Cormac: Why Are People Bullied?” (SBPRA; 2016) by Molly O’Rourke can help bridge the sensitive topic with children (as well as teens and adults).

“Bullying is a problem,” said the author. “What do you tell your children? What should they do? What should you do?” She hopes her full-page, full-color children’s book will start a conversation on bullying and empower the readers to effectively respond to bullying incidents.

Bullying prevention and empathy-building come in the form of a story of the two curious frogs Gleeson and Cormac and their friend Rachel. The three friends attend a class on bullying where they learn how bullying can negatively affect the victims and how best to help someone who has been bullied. After the class, Rachel shares to Gleeson and Cormac her own experience of being bullied.

A real test comes when the three friends see an older girl bullying a younger girl. Will they just stand at a safe distance and watch?

“The Adventures of Gleeson and Cormac: Why Are People Bullied?” will give readers the tools to end bullying, build compassion and empathy for others, and stand up for victims of bullying while standing up to bullies with love and kindness.
