Sébastien Gimbert clocks 20 years at the 24 Heures Motos

Sébastien Gimbert is embarking on a very special season. In the saddle of the Honda Endurance Racing bike, the French rider will take to the track for his last time racing the 24 Heures Motos on 20 April, 20 years after his very first race at Le Mans, also on a Honda.

Having raced the GP500, the French and World Superbike Championships and of course the FIM Endurance World Championship, Sébastien Gimbert is a fulfilled all-rounder. At the 2019 24 Heures Motos, he will be the rider who has competed most often in the race (20 times). He has just announced that this season will mark his last year competing. Sébastien is determined to wind up in style on factory-backed British team Honda Endurance Racing’s CBR1000RR #111.

This edition of the 24 Heures Motos will therefore be a very special one for Sébastien Gimbert, who has won the race on three occasions. He pulled off his first win back in 2000 on the factory Honda VTR1000 – which also bore the number 111. Although he doesn’t want to read anything into that coincidence, Sébastien is feeling confident. ‘The machine has come along nicely this past winter, and Honda are really keen to get ahead and fight for the win,’ he says. The team have another asset in the offing: a rider line-up that is rumoured to be very impressive.

Honda Endurance Racing are expected to imminently announce the names of the two riders who will partner with Sébastien Gimbert to go after the win.
