New OUP Technology Centre in Budapest

WEBWIRE

We are delighted to announce that we are launching a new Technology Centre in Budapest, in order to augment our technology capabilities, support our business agility, and streamline our technology infrastructure.

In order to help students, teachers, and researchers around the world to achieve better outcomes, we constantly explore opportunities to increase our impact through innovation and new technologies, and as we continue to invest in our technology and platforms our need for digital development skills is increasing.

To address this, we have opened a new Technology Centre in Budapest where there is a strong community of highly-trained developers. We aim to expand the Budapest team to around 100 roles over the next 12-18 months, particularly focusing on IT professionals with skills in cloud systems, programming, and software testing amongst other things. These brand-new roles will work alongside our existing Technology teams who are based both in the UK and across the world, which means there will be no redundancies or relocations for our current employees, and no disruption to customers.

As part of the recruitment effort, we have also collaborated with Future: Hungary—a Cambridge-based organization that connects Hungarian students in the UK with Hungary-based employers. As well as creating links between recruiters and graduates, Future: Hungary holds an annual conference and regular MeetUps to provide opportunities for their target groups to interact, explore, and learn.

Speaking of the new Technology Centre, OUP’s Director of Technology, Graham Dear, said: ‘Like many publishers, OUP is navigating digital transformation across all markets and recognizes the need to invest in our technology capabilities. This means attracting more talented IT people to join us alongside our existing technology teams. We chose to build a new Technology Centre in Budapest due to Hungary’s strong STEM focused education system and renowned technology community. The centre will support and develop our platforms and infrastructure, and enable us to evolve with our customers in a digital world.’
