Author Kathryn Carpenter Takes Readers Back in Time to the Mines of Southern Colorado

What was it like in 1900s? How exciting could it be to hear stories from the perspective of children? This is what author Kathryn Carpenter wants to tell the readers on her book, “Stories from the Arroyos.” She is a teacher and a nurse by profession. Writing is a passion that she has kept until she moved to Colorado and the old coal mines caught her interest.
 
The inspiration to write the book came when she was walking through the arroyos and some piles of slag. The book contains twenty stories for children. Recreating in the adults and the children’s minds the activities that happened in the coal mining camp in southern Colorado is the ultimate aim of the book. Hearing the laughter, feeling the losses and seeing the joyous moments in the camps are among the few that she would like the readers to picture out.
 
Kathryn hopes that the children of this generation gets to learn lessons from the past told by folks of their age. Insights that may have well forgotten today affects how the world that it is now.
