Bayer Cares Foundation donates over EUR 363,000 to support 94 social projects in 32 countries worldwide

New round of Bayer Role Model Program projects

Leverkusen – WEBWIRE

Applications received from 298 initiatives in 52 countries / Around EUR 3 million donated to 839 projects since start of Program in 2007

Exemplary engagement rewarded: A further 94 social projects in 32 countries have been awarded more than EUR 363,000 in recognition of their work to better the lives of people living in the vicinity of Bayer sites around the world. The donations come from the Bayer Cares Foundation, the company’s societal engagement body, and the Foundation’s independent jury again decided who should receive the Bayer Role Model Program’s awards from amongst the 298 applicants. All the projects relate to socially relevant issues in the fields of nutrition, health and social innovation. Since the start of the Role Model Program in 2007, a total of 839 projects have been supported with a total sum of around EUR 3 million. What all the projects have in common is the proactive involvement of Bayer employees or retirees and local people living close to Bayer sites.

“We are glad to support our employees and retirees with these donations as they voluntarily invest their skills and experience to help their fellow human beings. What particularly impressed us about these projects was the diversity of the ideas and sustainable nature of the measures involved,” says Dr. Hartmut Klusik, Labor Director, Bayer Board of Management member responsible for HR, Technology and Sustainability, and Chairman of the Bayer Cares Foundation. “Besides, as a company we are delighted to see how widespread societal engagement is amongst our workforce and retired employees.”

The foundation’s funding activities are a central element of Bayer’s global social commitment of around EUR 50 million annually – with the focus on promoting scientific education and leading-edge research, as well as on providing health care and nutrition and meeting the basic social needs of people who live near the company’s sites.
