Nearpod Partners with Newsela to Increase Student Engagement and Literacy for Grades 2-12

The partnership brings together two of the most widely-used teacher platforms to increase student engagement with literacy, adding 100 ready-to-run lessons to the Nearpod library featuring Newsela’s leveled texts

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – WEBWIRE

Nearpod, the award-winning edtech company helping K-12 teachers and school districts create engaging classroom experiences, today announces its partnership with Newsela to incorporate high-interest and engaging content into Nearpod’s signature interactive learning experiences. Through this partnership, Newsela’s multidisciplinary, standards-aligned texts are embedded into 100 ready-to-run Nearpod lessons that leverage Nearpod’s signature features such as virtual reality and interactive assessments.

Newsela is an Instructional Content Platform that supercharges reading engagement and learning in every subject by publishing high-interest current events, primary sources, and other nonfiction content at five levels of complexity to promote understanding of texts and ensure that every student can participate in reading and discussion. Their platform transforms the way students access the world through words in over 90 percent of K-12 schools in the US.

“We’re excited to partner with Nearpod and join their ecosystem of interactive experiences and multimedia like virtual reality,” shared Dan Cogan-Drew, Chief Product Officer and co-founder of Newsela. “By teaming up, we will empower more teachers with the tools needed to drive engagement in today’s classrooms, and reach more students with relevant content that inspires wonder.”

In addition to this partnership, Newsela will also be attending Nearpod’s 2019 Transform Conference -- attendees can find them in the exhibitor hall or by attending the breakout session on Sunday, February 24th at 11am, led by a Newsela and Nearpod Certified Educator.

“Nearpod is committed to partnering with renowned publishers and education companies to produce high-quality, standards-aligned content that gives students delight in learning,” said Guido Kovalskys, CEO and co-founder of Nearpod. “We’re excited to bring access to a collection of Newsela’s differentiated content into our interactive learning experiences to deepen students’ ability to be critical readers and thinkers.”

The content launch comes on the heels of Nearpod’s mid-term release that added hundreds of new lessons to the constantly-expanding content library. Lessons included upper-division math with Desmos, VR Career Tours for career readiness, and new digital citizenship lessons from Common Sense Education. The standards-aligned lessons are ready-to-run and can be launched with a single click.
